Sign of the times

Sedo.com, a domain brokerage firm, recently held a a domain name auction -- which in itself was a throwback to the days when you couldn't pay too much for, say, furniture.com, because where else on the Internet would people buy furniture? -- and amazingly, two domains broke the $1 million mark: Creditcheck.com fetched $3 million and Seniors.com went for $1.8 million. Talk about a sign of the times.

The value is apparently in aging people and those worried about their debt -- perhaps at the same time. And if this doesn't sum up the US right now, what does?

The 16 year old Mercedes W124 E-Class, under extreme duress, performing admirably. I think it would even survive being parked in a small garage with two small boys playing around it. Link through to the full series (4 part).

That pesky content

I heard this song Paper Plane by M.I.A. on KEXP, and thought it was crazy catchy, even if I wasn't quite sure what the lyrics were about. The gun sfx should have been my first clue, but hey, with that slightly stoner girl voice, I figured it was probably not too bad. And for the most part, the lyrics aren't as important to me in a song as the music -- unless they are really bad. So eventually, I looked up the lyrics to . Yuk.  Now I feel conflicted. Is she writing from the point of view of a character? Is it a boast? I don't know, but dammit I appear to care. How I hate that in pop music.

Late breaking: apparently a sample from The Clash's "Straight to Hell" which is a nice song but I have to say is not one of their best efforts. Sigh. Even more conflicted.
