Bridging

I'm not sure where the "we're all gonna die" angle comes from in the URL, but I love the way this super long photo has an implied narrative... I find myself trying to imagine what's "going on" in the image even though it's simply a stitched-together series of photos taken on a bridge in Berlin. Well, "simply" might be understating it. It's beautifully done.

Das Rink

Because I'm not busy enough with trying to keep up with house maintenance items like, oh, insulation, plumbing and leakage, I've really become enamoured with the idea of next year making a mini-ice rink in our back yard. Wish I'd thought of it sooner as it's a great year for it now, but hopefully global warming will hold out until 2010.

Someone from Campbell's hockey arena sent me this link about the religion that is making backyard rinks:

http://www.hpurchase.com/bbayer08.htm

I include that link as opposed to the ones where people have backyards that are basically football fields. I figure in my backyard I could make a rink about 10x12 which would be plenty for  Adele to skate on and the boys to shoot at a net etc.

Of course, we'd have to get to the garage in back by zipline, but that would just add to the adventure, no?

New Kid

Ha, no not an ACTUAL kid. The new Kid Brother site, complete with e-com and a CMS. Whoo hoo! Almost there. I originally started working with a solo developer (my days of coding are SO over), but he got sick and instead the company he does some work for agreed to take it -- and our miniscule budget -- on and finish it. They've been doing a great job so far, although it's been interesting to be a "client" with an agency rather than the other way around.

Here's a sneak peak of the home page. Next up will be integrating the buy sections into Shopify (the CMS with e-comm) and linking it all up to PayPal. Stay tuned...

2009 Yo!

Well, it's freezing, as January should be I guess. That was a good holiday, although not long enough, or holiday enough, but so it goes.

The January Clearance (aka Beer Embargo) is on, and I'm finding it surprisingly easy this year for a change. Then again, I'm only half way.

This morning I had to cart some stuff to work, so I decided to take the TTC instead of trying to cycle in the freezing cold with bags hanging off the handlebars. (Can you guess where this story is going?) I got to the stop at College and Crawford just after 9am, and as there was no streetcar in sight, walked eastward towards Spadina. I saw about 4 streetcars going west, but didn't see the first one going east until I was at Bathurst. Naturally it was jammed. Okay, so I kept walking to Spadina, thinking I'd catch one going south. I got to Spadina, no car. So I started walking south, and don't see a single streetcar until I get to Spadina and Richmond... This is at 9:30 in the morning! What kind of transit system is it that I can walk in the direction of downtown for 40 minutes and see exactly ONE transit vehicle going my way? Pathetic. Fire them all and start again, says the grouch.

Still, I got some good exercise trying to keep warm in -15 degrees I'll say that.
