All done

Well, MT 3.01D is up and running, all seems good. I've got delayed comments turned on, so if you make a comment, untill i get back to OK it, you wont see it right away. Thus is the price of Spam.

Ok, up and running...

Ok, i've got 3.01 up and running. All seems well, comments should be on again, with some registration stuff running. I don't even know how that works, but i'll try it out now...

more comment spam

i've had to remove comments from the blog for a while, untill i figure out why they are not working correctly. Also to save myself from all the damn comment spam.

broke and away

We are away for a week and a half, so there will not be any updates here - not that there would have been anyway ;)

Also, it seems that the comments are broken here, i will try to get to them when i get back... I don't know what i'm going to do about that yet. Move up to MT 3.x? Over to Pybloxsom? Textpattern?

Well, i've got to start figuring out what to watch from Athens this year. I've found the CBC schedule and the NBC one too. Does anyone have a general TV schedule, listing what all the different TV stations and what sports they are broadcasting? Who is going to watch what?

Motorcycle trip!

Ciara and i will be heading up to Port Dover for the friday the 13th event. I've always wanted to go out to this, and we are finally going to go! I know, it looks like its mostly HD style bikes, but there are all kinds of riders there, and the city is shut down, only 'cycles allowed in - how cool is that? Anyway, i'm going to take the camera, so i should have some photos from this crazyness. Weather is looking good (knocks on wood), but we will see.

Grrrrrr

Curses! For some unfathomable reason, my beautiful, fresh, new working copy of MT-Blacklist is now defunct. It has no funk. Crap.

Server goodness

| | Comments (0)

Well, i didn't really do any work on the server today, but it is up and running. I was thinking that i could also host my own DNS stuff with this setup. What that really means is that i've got more reading to do. It is probably more worthwhile to just pay EasyDNS to do it. $50 bucks or hours and hours of reading and fiddling...

Did a bunch of freelance work today, felt good to get back into flash production work. Its been a while, and it did take a bit to remember some of the quirks of flash. In particular i couldn't remember the CTRL-T key combo for testing actionscript in the IDE. Much time wasted.

So far, so good...

Debian install is going well so far - major plus is that it recognized the new ethernet card right away! Doing final setup now, should be good to go soon. Perhaps tomorrow i will have a server for you to try out... if i can get dynamic IP working, as i'm still on sympatico with non-static IP :(

mt-blacklist

Finally got the latest version of the Mt-Blacklist plugin up and running. The old one was kind of half-running, so this should make killing the spam comments easier. You can check out the very large list of spam url's here, if you want to add any of mine to your blacklist.

debian woe

So, things were going swimmingly - i got the VPN up, had good luck with Linux, but ran into a road-block. Debian would not recognize my ethernet card. After many, many attempts to get it to work, i broke down and tried to install an old version of RedHat that i had laying around. A bit better, but it really wants to run X, which i don't want, and i did want to get debian in, as its updatability is much better then RedHats. So, i went out and bought a new ethernet card, a, hopefully, more standard 3com one. We will see how that goes, as i hope to get it installed tonight.

So. Full. Of. Ideas.

I've been having problems getting to sleep at night, which is a bummer, but it has meant that i've had lots of time to think of all kinds of crazy ideas for projects! Most, if not all, of these will never see a line of code being written to move them forward, but i thought i'd share them with you all anyway.

Holy Spam Attack!

I'm being overloaded by a comment spammer right now, so i just wanted to apologize for any dumb-ass spam comments that you might see. All i have to say about people that do this kind of thing is that they are scum. You would not believe how pissed off this makes me. What a pain in the ass.

Girrrrrr.

VPN and Linux

Well, i've been fooling around here at home, in the basement, with the various computers, trying to get my setup ready for the switch-over to Toronto Freenet from Sympatico. I've, finally, got WEP going on the wireless router. I'm not sure if i'm going to keep it on or not as i don't really care if anyone else uses the connection - the rest of my network is on a different router, so they can't access it, and it is not really that secure. Unfortunately, this also meant that i couldn't access it from the laptop either. Today, i managed to get a VPN connection from the laptop to one of the servers on the other network! Excellent! i can now backup my files to the file-server in the basement! Now i just need to get Debian installed on the web server, get a static IP or two and i'll be good to go!

TV Request

If anyone gets PBS, on Monday at 10pm the show "Surviving the Iron Age" sounds really good: "... puts 17 volunteers in a Welsh castle to live for sever weeks as their ancestors did in 500 BC... this isn't a mere illusion of hardship... send in a doctor in the very first episode." I'd love to watch this, if somebody could tape it...
