I'm in the process of changing the templates for the site, so things might look a bit wonky for a bit. Do not panic!

So today Con got to try out many different kinds of wheeled vehicles. Started with the LIKEaBike, which is, well, like-a-bike. Pretty cool, he just got on it and was zooming right away. There are some pretty cool alternative versions of this too. We are going to have to order one of the wooden ones from Germany i think...
Next up was the skateboard. Yes, thats right, skateboard. I was hoping that, someday, he might try skating out, but i didn't think he'd get a chance so early. Sure enough, one of the other older kids brought his mini-board, and Con got his hands on it. In no time he was up, standing on it. I was just sitting there amazed.
So, that's two new things to get for Conor. So many cool things for kids, so little time!
I also wanted to do a quick plug for RebelDad, the blog for stay-at-home-dads. I've just started to read it. So far it's interesting, and they have lots of links to other dad resources to check out.

I wanted to provide a gentle, nerd-centric introduction to Getting Things Done, so that you can think about whether it might be right for you.

The function of this page is to make this searching and comparison process easier for python programmers. I have listed here on this page all of the open source python HTTP proxies I could find. Listing them all in one place should make the job of finding

Howtoons are one-page cartoons showing 5-to-15 year-old kids "How To" build things. Each illustrated episode is a stand-alone fun adventure accessible to all, including the pre-literate. Our Howtoons are designed to encourage children to be active partici
Well, i saw Steamboy by Otomo on Saturday. I thought it was a great, big, fun adventure of a film. AICN has a review. It actually felt more like a Miyazaki film, then what i would have expected from the director of Akira. Although the visuals are very Otomo-esc, lots of pipes and details, the characters are, well, softer then those in Akira. Its a bit less harsh, which, in a lot of ways, made it an easier and more "fun" film then Akira. It is going to be released sometime next year here, so i'd recommend that you get out and see it.
On the way back from the theater i was drawn into Pages bookstore on Queen. I have to learn, don't go into bookstores! I can't seem to help buying books, even though i've already got a stack of books on the go, and the amount of time i have to read is minuscule. Despite that i picked up a book on Existentialism, because you just can't have enough philosophy books around, and "The Myth of Ability: Nurturing Mathematical Talent in Every Child" (Globe article), as its never too early to start thinking about how to help your kid though those tough subjects! Never mind that he is only 17 months old...
And, further on the "don't go into bookstores" theme, don't shop at online bookstores! I just ordered "Foundations of Python Network Programming" and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" from Indigo. Sigh. At least i know Ciara will read "The Curious Incident", so that's not a lost cause. Unlike me.

Gnostica is an abstract territory based war game. Tarot cards make up the often-changing board, and players use Icehouse pieces to represent minions that control those territories.
Conor had his first Smarties the other day. I was a bit worried about possible choking hazard issues, but all went well, and he really seemed to enjoy them. I hope so, because they were a gift from another parent, and the chances of his parents getting him more are pretty slim.
Managed to snag a ticket to Otomo's film "Steamboy" on Saturday at the Festival. Big thanks to Peter for that one, and, luckily, he has managed to get to see it today, so we all win! I'm pretty excited to see it, but its in the Elgin, which means that there will not be a Q and A with the director. This is the same thing that happened with Miyazaki and "Princess Mononoke". What the heck, you bring them half way around the planet to a festival, but they can't do a Q and A?
Speaking of the festival, Stacy is doing some good write-ups of stuff that she is seeing. Oh, gotta go, the boy is back!

The Python Grimoire explains how to perform common programming tasks in Python. It is a good place to go after you've read the Python Tutorial and have a reasonable grasp of the basics of the language.

This paper will focus on the general problem of privacy in social software like weblogs; a follow-up paper will detail mod-pubsub's design for semi-permeable blogware.

You might have noticed the last 2 entries are a bit, well, sparce of any info. They are automagically created from my del.icio.us account. Any new URLs i add are posted, once a day, here. I don't know if i'm going to keep this up, but its kind of cool, so we will see.
So, i've re-enabled comments. However, you have to register with TypeKey before you can comment. This will last till i get the new server up and running, so i can get MT-Blacklist working again. Sorry for slight pain in the bum.
And i'm not talking about Mimi or Nuclear War.
We were out in the Beaches, actually on the beach. I can't remember when i saw so many people out, on the beach and in the water. It was really quite wonderful to see people enjoying the lake. What a great end to the summer!
It was windy and there were some waves, which Conor charged right out into. Very like me. We both then spent some time throwing rocks into the lake, well, i was actually trying to skip them, Con was just tossing them. Give him time, he will be a chap skipper!
There were a whole bunch of kite-surfers down at the beach too. It was very beautiful to see the kites (kind of like big parachutes) whipping around in the wind. I was really kicking myself for not bringing my camera!
Here are some from our short cottage trip.

So much has happened since the last post, and the only thing i have time to talk about right now are the damn spamers. I've, yet again, had to disable comments, as the 2.x version of MT-Blacklist dosen't work with my ISP's version of Perl. This means comments will not be turned back on till i've gotten all of theOrg moved over to the server in the basement. That might get done this weekend, but i doubt it. Anyway, hope everyone is well and having a good long weekend!
I also hope to get some new photos up this weekend too...
