So, a good start to the winter here in toronto. About a foot of snow from last night, waiting for me this morning to shovel. It does make it so much more christmas-y, with a nice blanket of white snow. Tho i worry for ciara, as so many drivers are still going to be stupid and drive like maniacs. I know she will go slow, but everyone else... I can only hope that they have their crashes before getting to her.
Poor Conor had a pretty hard night. Something he ate didn't like his stomach so it had to come out, several times, last night. Luckily, we don't think it was a flu or some bug, but just some food that was not quite right.
Dealing with puke is much easier when you've been dealing with poo for 20 months.

CherryPy is looking like the choice to go with for my python/web development projects. It only took a bit over a year for me to decide. Hopefully, it won't take that long to get started on the project itself!

Interesting article on how you might decentralize typekey, or really, any auth app
Congrats to Tony and Wendy!
First, to give the naysayers and those that think that the general ownership of our culture by big business is a load of lefty propaganda, you might want to check out this post about a documentary film maker who can not show his film, out of fear of being sued by said "big business".
Secondly, while i've never heard of "Red Swoosh" (and will not link to them), infoanarchy has an analysis of their campaign and alliance with the MPAA to besmirch the reputation, and legality, of BitTorrent. The author goes though the Red Swoosh terms of service, pointing out inconsistencies with public statements made by the president about their service. Very similar to what Tony has done with Marquis' TOS.

After taking a year off from Trapeze to take care of Conor, i've decided that i like being home. To further my home time i've, regretfully, resigned from Trapeze to work at home freelancing. I can't believe its been five years since i joined with Trapeze. I've had some excellent times, learned lots and had wonderful opportunities to work with some really talented people.
But the future is forward, and i'm really excited to try to make it work as a freelancer from home. I've got a few people interested, and i'm going to have to work on making more contacts in the new year. I'm also going to have to build some kind of portfolio site. Another project for the new year, or possibly the holidays.
So, if you are looking for a developer with experience in a number of internet technologies (Flash/Actionscript, Python, SQL, PHP, DHTML, etc), please let me know!

The Christmas tree is now up here at home. Looks nice, with the lights and decorations. I actually got into the spirit of things while decorating, which was nice. Conor took little notice, other then to keep pulling off the low hanging ornaments.
Con is still suffering through some bad poo issues, and its causing his bum to get really red and sore. He really hates getting his diaper changed now, and fights it, which is understandable as it must be pretty painful right now. Poor little gaffer.
This weekend was a bit of banner one for us. Ciara and i got out to brunch twice, on Saturday and Sunday. We were also out for my mom's birthday dinner, with Conor, on Friday. Conor is getting much better at dining events like this, which is great, as we can now go out without the apprehension that would normally accompany such an event.
Saturday was our last day of real Christmas Shopping. Except for an odd or end here and there, we are now done. Thinking ahead, we got out to the Eaton Center early on Saturday. Grandma was with Conor at home as we thought it would be pretty challenging to do all the running around we wanted to do with him in tow, and really, it would be not very fun from his point of view. He is really good with my mom now, and doesn't freakout at all when we leave him.
We were at the Center early, by 10:30am, and while the mall itself wasn't very busy, Indigo had a good line on the go already. I'd say i was waiting 20 minutes to get to the register. Luckily, as it was a bookstore, i had lots to read! I was just surprised that it was so busy so early, while the rest of the place was so quiet. Guess its good that books are still so popular.
I'm not sure if, with all the Internet and Phone stuff, i've mentioned that we have also been having satellite issues? Well, we have, and they finally got to the point about two weeks ago that i started the phone support game with ExpressVu. After carting the receiver to a Bell retail store, re-aiming the dish, running new RC6 cable out to the dish, we can say that the problem was the LNBF. What's that? Its the bit on the end of arm of the dish that picks up the signals from the satellite. So ExpressVu has one "in the mail" to us, 5 - 7 business days, and $75. Sigh. I have, however, learned more then i ever wanted to about satellite tv stuff. For now anyway.
Oh, and the Phone and Internet issues are still with us. I'm still investigating possible problems with the kind assistance of The Phone Man. I have to admit that i'm beginning to despair, and thinking of just replacing all our hard-wired phones with some good wireless ones.
I'm still sick. I've been sick for two weeks now. Just when i think i've shaken it off, i have a relaps. I also blew-out my back on monday, just to make things more interesting. I hate feeling like i'm going to puke, i'd rather just get it over with and move on! Bah, dreck, plaugh.
Ok, here is a bunch of new photos!

Since there has been no new info on getting MT-Blacklist working on IIS MovableType installations, i've had to remove trackback functionality from this site. I've also made it so that only registered users can comment on posts. Looking at the log files for the server, i still get about a hit a second by a spammer, either trying to post a comment or trackback. Because of the load this traffic puts on my site and server, i'm thinking of changing from MT to some other blog software. I don't quite know what else to do. Even if MT-Blacklist was working for me, i'd still have to deal with the load of all the spammers/bots trying to post. I guess i'll try to change the names of the trackback and comment scripts and see if that reduces the number of hits. Its just such a pain, takes way to much time and lowers my intrest in keeping up with it at all. Sigh.
Was sick as a dog over the weekend and still recovering. The fact that Conor was up all night doesn't help matters. Things are on the whole good however - will post more when i get more then a second.
