ical lib for python
We had some people over for sunday dinner. Went very well, we actually judged the food requirements spot on - not too much left over, no one went hungry. Except for the dessert, which i might have made a bit too much of. Ok, so maybe 6 pounds of apples for an apple-crisp is excessive.
The new PSP has been released. Bryan and Tony have some things [1] [2] [3] to say about it. I was wondering how close to the form factor of the old Newton it is. As you can see from these specs of the Newton 2100 vs those of the PSP, it is pretty close. The Newt is about twice as heavy, and the PSP has a smaller pixel resolution screen, but more colours. The PSP also has a USB connector, so a keyboard is a possibility, as is a mouse, if anyone is working on productivity apps. This is quite possible, especially if you look at all the apps that are running on the Symbian OS (or even the palm pilot).
Mark and co. seem to have had a weekend of sickness. He should read this.
I've got a boot-load of new photos, just have to get my act in gear and post some of them.
Kos, a long time greasy spoon diner drinking hangout place, has closed down. I can't count the number of times i had a cheap breakfast there, after a night shift at CIUT or a morning show. College and Bathurst will never be the same.

Interesting app. Does much of what i wanted to build a catalog app to do. The only thing missing is an easy way to add "tags" to photos. It has a "keywords" field, which could be perverted into use here. As the source is open, a new editing page could be

stuff from the actionscript cookbook. nice utilities etc.
I've been using the as2lib to provide some unit testing tools for my flash actionscript programming. This all ties in together with the flash/MT/CMS thingie. I have to say, at first, the whole static typing thing in as 2.0 kind of put me off. But i've become a convert. And i'm starting to get into Test Driven Development. While just figuring out how to test asynchronous code is challenging, finding bugs later makes the effort worthwhile. Again, things are moving forward, slowly. Oh, and i'm using this AS2.0 XMLRPC library as the basis for all my flash-to-mt communications.
Another tool that has been helping out on the programming front is Natural Docs. I've never been too good at keeping up with documentation, especially if i have to remember special tags, like javadoc, or anything. Natural Docs is, well, a pretty natural way to document your code. Nice HTML output, easy to use, etc etc. For slackers like me, the stuff it pulls out automagically is great, everything else is gravy.
I haven't mentioned any of the new music that i've been listening to for far too long.
Most recently i picked up the Metric album 'Old world underground, where are you now?', and have been listening to it over and over again. Kind of Cranberries, retro 80s, alt-rock, with really good lyrics. "Combat Baby" and "Dead Disco" are my favourites to rock out too.
Next is LAL. Kinda world/indo/shoe-gazing/Thievery Corporation-y.
Dead Meadow. Just listen to this. Kind of like GSYBE with huge guitar sounds. But not.
Also finally got My Bloody Valentine's album "Loveless". After all i'd been reading about it (one of the shoegazing greats) it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Still, some good tracks on it. Slowdive is another shoegazing band to check out, so i've read, so it is on the to-buy list.
Three more quickies. Apostle of Hustle 'Folkloric feel', Archer Prewitt 'wilderness', and Bebo & Cigala 'Lagrimas Negras'. Haven't spend enough time listening to these ones to really get a feel for them, tho i do like the 'Lagrimas Negras' album.
Still poking away at this project. Doing some really good work on xmlrpc proxy - the code that will allow the flash app to connect and work with the MT XML-RPC interface. Nothing to show yet, but its still happening, slowly.
