August 2007 Archives
What a week. Family, baby, sleeping, not sleeping, spitup, poop, pee, all rolled into one big hullabaloo! I think we are on the less-crazy side of it all now, having gotten our what-to-do-with-a-new-born skills back into practice. Seems to be working ok, so far! Rory, Conor, Mom and Dad are all doing quite well and settling in.
Everyone is now home, safe and sound. Rory John Quigley Yule is doing fine - sleeping right now actually! I hope to have some pictures up tomorrow.
Born at 14:38, 9 pounds 12 oz. Mom and son are hale and hearty. We hope to be home tomorrow sometime.
Contractions have started. We aren’t at the hospital… yet.
Well, amazingly, we managed to get almost everything done in the house before the baby came (comes? He is still not here at this point). Other then further organizing (which will go on until the end of my days), installing the ceiling fan for the master bedroom and stacking the dryer on the washer, we are done! Well, a few other odds and sods, but really mostly done. We are all enjoying being in the new house, more space, fresh starts, quieter streets (don’t even get me started on this - it seems we left just in time).
So, everyone is settling in quite well! And the number of boxes is steadly decreasing! Man, we have a lot of stuff. However, in an effort to reduce it i’m being quite mercyless in my attempts to par it down. My books have taken quite a beating although its oh so easy to fill right back up again - i just got Gibsons latest and Release It, because you can never have to many computer science books! Anyway, the books are the first on the chopping block, my game collection, which has already felt the cuts is up for more. Although it is very hard to get rid of the games. And don’t even talk about my comics, tho really, i’ve only got one comic box of actual comics, all the rest are collections or graphic novels. Well, maybe more then just one box, but hey, its like all of Akira and Nausciaa and Appleseed! How can i get rid of those? (ok, and maybe some other stuff - i swear i got rid of my Rom the Spaceknight and Micronauts!)
I am going to be getting rid of my original Star Trek series VHS’ however - i’ve got all of them. The whole three seasons. Ah columbia house, where are you now? I can’t believe how much i must have paid for all those tapes! But time marches on, and i’m just never going to watch them on VHS again. I thought about digitizing them first, but, really, what a huge pain in the ass. I’ll just buy them, again, on DVD. Takes up so much less room! If you are interested in a whack of ST:TOS VHS tapes, let me know!
I got into the Scrybe beta. Its a new PIM-ish thing. More scheduling, less contact management. I’m liking it quite a bit, its well suited to using the Getting Things Done task management methods. Scrybe is a flash app, built with Flex, and the designers have spent some time figuring out the flow and feel of the app. There are still rough edges, and missing functionality, but it is a beta, and even in its current state i’m quite taken with it. The dev’s seem to read the forum and are implementing people requests, so it seems like its only going to get better. I do wonder what the model for revenue is however. I imagine that it will be bought up by one of the big ‘net companies, but if not, how they are going to monetize it is unclear.
Also i finally had to give in and join Facebook. It is quite an interesting platform, and if i had more time i’d probably be more into it, but for now its just another time sink. Although i did find some “old friends” from high-school, which was kind of … strange. I don’t know if i’ll actually try to ‘friend’ them or not, but interesting to see them on there.
Oh, and no baby yet.
I’m still rebuilding theorganization.net server, so there are bits missing. Email is up and running and the blog software is going, but i still have to move over all the old content. That’s what i’m going to go work on right now.
I can now say that our new boy is officially late. Ah well, gives us more time to prepare… Or at least figure out what we are going to name him! And thanks Norah for the suggestions!
Oi. What a pain in the behind. The blogging software is up and running again. This time, i hope, for good.
The baby is still firmly ensconced in Ciara’s belly. Officially he should be showing up tomorrow. But we will see - Conor was late, we’ll see if he is late too.
Speaking of “him”, we are still working on a name… Rory is the front runner right now. We’ll see if that sticks.
